Folklorama: Sponsorship and Support
The DUCW's involvement in Folklorama has been both popular and successful. Between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors attend our pavilions. We attract extensive media coverage in Canada, New Zealand and Australia that presents individuals and corporations in each country with a unique opportunity for sponsorship.

The Down Under Club of Winnipeg Inc. is a non-profit organization, and as such we rely on the good will and generosity of individuals and companies in New Zealand, Australia and Canada to provide us with goods, services and sponsorships to ensure the success of promoting our home countries. There are many areas of sponsorship opportunities available. Pavilion Sponsors provide the Club with the finances required to stage the pavilion, in return for premier advertising rights. However, there are other more specific areas that would also benefit from sponsor support and involvement:

Area Requiring Support - Description - Past Sponsors/Suppliers

VOLUNTEERS - More than 150 volunteers are required during the one week that the pavilion runs. Some volunteers return each year to support our effort.

UNIFORMS FOR VOLUNTEERS - T-shirts and shorts for volunteers and pavilion coordinators help them stand out so visitors know how to contact during their stay at the pavilion. Thank you to Balance Planning of Winnipeg, Kiwi Installations, Universal Shutters, and Direct Focus for their past support.

FOOD - Volunteer chefs prepare much of the food, while other foods are prepared off site and delivered to the pavilion. A delicious menu of food includes sausages, lambchops, meat pies, sausage roles, and various desserts. Much of the food served to visitors to our pavilion has been provided by Molly's Meat Pies of Winnipeg. Also thanks to M&M.

BEVERAGES - A selection of Aussie and Kiwi wine and beer, as well as pop and water, are provided for visitors. Our thanks are extended to Lindeman's Wines, primary supplier of New Zealand and Australian wines.

STAGE, SOUND EQUIPMENT and LIGHTING EQUIPMENT - Depending on the entertainment and activities, different sizes and combinations of equipment are required.

PROGRAMS - Souvenir programs and placemats provide added value for visitors and an opportunity for us to further recognise our sponsors, suppliers and others involved in staging the pavilion. Thank you to Home of Instant Printing for their previous support.

PRIZES and GIVEAWAYS - Many international and Canadian sponsors have provided posters, brochures, and other items for giveaway and display, and we thank them all for their support: New Zealand Tourist Bureau (Los Angeles); New Zealand High Commission (Ottawa); Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (Sydney); City of Adelaide (South Australia); City of Invercargill (New Zealand); City of Meekatharra (Western Australia); Akubra Hats (Australia)

CULTURAL DISPLAY - Items for the display are provided in part by members of the Down Under Club as well as the various sponsors for our pavilion. Other donations and loans are welcome!

SOUVENIRS - Assistance is sought in picking up or covering the cost of shipping items garnered from various locations in New Zealand and Australia.

PERFORMERS - Performers from Australia and New Zealand must cover the cost of their airfares to and from Canada, as well as some expenses incurred during their stay in Winnipeg. Financial support of performers to our pavilion is most welcome! Our sincere thanks to all those sponsors who helped Tal-kin-jeri (2000, 2004) and Kahurangi Rangatahi (2001) raise the airfares necessary to attend the pavilion. Our thanks also go to the members of both groups for contributing to the success of our pavilion and joining us here in Winnipeg.
